Here
My back-to-back trips to Florida (I'm in the "home" portion of the fortnight right now, leaving again on Tuesday) reminded me about a tune I started writing right after Mrs. Quipper and I got married. We weren't even six months old, and I had a one-week trip extended to a two-week stay.
Somehow, the song morphed from about being away from home, into a song about a relationship that's not quite where it should be. (No, it does not apply to the Quipper household.)
The second hand is ticking,
I’m slowly wheedling away the hours until
I can see you again,
All I’m doing is thinking,
thinking about the time that I will be with you…again,
So many smiles and so many conversations
That we both yearn to have.
I long to see your face before the night is through.
It's so hard, can't you see,
This isn't how I wanted it to be.
I'm missing you, I want you to be here.
I have my head in the clouds,
This metal bird takes me to my next location
Without you…again.
I’m working on the wrong marriage,
Climbing ladders just to make a better life for you…again
So many trials and so many tribulations
On the road to life at home.
So many things to do and no time left for you…
Oh, I know, that it’s not supposed to be like this.
Please tell me, where did our lives go amiss?
Please help me, because I can’t figure it out alone.
It's so hard, can't you see,
This isn't how I wanted it to be.
I'm missing you, I want you to be here.
I pray every day,
Love shouldn't have to be this way.
I'm missing you, I want you to be here.
All the while with so little consolation...
Grasping for answers in air...
Looking for a quick fix that we know isn’t there
It's so hard, can't you see,
This isn't how I wanted it to be.
I'm missing you, I want you to be here.
I pray every day,
Love shouldn't have to be this way.
I'm missing you, I want you to be here.
It's so hard, can't you see,
This isn't how I wanted it to be.
I'm missing you, I want you to be here.
We both know something has to change,
But we don’t know a better way.
I’m missing you, I want you to be here.
Until that day,
The clock still ticks away.
Our proximity’s the same,
But our distance has changed.
I want you to be here.
